Creation’s “Stations

At Creation Station Preschool, the children are learning a variety of skills as they rotate throughout the school on a daily basis.  Each center is designed to integrate educational and fun activities in small group, as well as larger group settings.

In the “Reading station” the teachers read stories to the children, and they can also choose books from the shelves to look at and read to themselves.  Comfortable chairs and small couches provide a library-like atmosphere.

The “Art station” will allow the children to participate in open-ended art projects with child-directed results.  Teachers will also plan projects that have specific, recognizable outcomes.  Many projects will teach letters, numbers, colors, and shapes.  Art projects will also be centered around weekly themes and will further invite educational discussions about the various topics being studied.

The “Dramatic play station” encourages imagination, cooperative play and a developing sense of self, using a variety of dress-up clothes, hats, shoes and toys with easily recognizable roles in a typical family’s daily life.  Children will have the opportunity to try out various roles in the family and community, and to explore their future roles in society.

The “Manipulative station” teaches the children use their small motor skills to demonstrate special awareness, develop hand/eye coordination, practice self-help skills, understand number concepts, and improve pre-writing skills.

In the “Math station” children will learn to recognize numbers up to 20, count to 20, as well as sequencing, patterning, sorting and graphing related items.  Educational games will include shapes that teach pre-math logical thinking and spatial relations.  Themes will include learning to tell time and learning about money.

The “Science station” is designed to awaken in the children a curiosity of the way the world works.  They will work with tools such as: magnets, static electricity, binoculars, prisms, stethoscopes, mixing colors, microscopes and slides.  They will learn about weather, seasons, nutrition, dinosaurs, bugs, ocean animals, life cycles and parts of the body.

The “Language station” teaches letter recognition, phonics and sight words through games, puzzles and educational activities.  Children will learn to recognize, spell and write their own names.

In the “Computer station” the children will learn to use the keyboard and mouse to play fun and educational games, while learning important skills necessary for successful school careers.

The “Play Station” has a large indoor play structure, and lots of space for indoor games and activities.  It promotes large muscle activities, improves balance and muscle coordination in a safe and air-conditioned environment.  The teachers play games with the children in small groups that encourage teamwork.

Children can build any number of architectural wonders in the “Block station” There are “people” and “community helpers”, as well as an assortment of vehicles that fulfill a variety of roles in our community.

The “Transportation station” will allow the children to pretend to drive fire trucks, police cars, airplanes, helicopters, motorcycles, fantasy vehicles, off-road vehicles, and construction vehicles.  They can “work” at the mechanic shop or the work bench with a variety of tools.

In the “Music station” children will explore rhythm and movement, listen and learn to identify a variety of sounds, and build phonemic awareness.  Songs, instruments and dances will go along with the weekly themes to teach the children to appreciate various types of music and musical instruments.
